A special Weekend featuring The Taste Cheshire Farmers

To celebrate Chester Food and Drink Week the Taste Cheshire Farmers Market will run for two days this September on Town Hall Square.

Producers from right across Cheshire and North Wales will gather on the 19th and 20th September from 10am until 4pm on each day to show the stunning goods on offer from across our region.

Taste Cheshire CEO, Stephen Wundke was delighted with the decision. “Special thanks to the Council for allowing us to extend our event to two days for this very important week.

Our producers have been severely hit by Covid and the opportunity to show their products on the 19th and 20th of September is a vital part to them getting back to normal. We look forward to seeing everyone over these two days.

Hello Foodies & Welcome to Chester Food and Drink Week!

On behalf of We Love Good Times and Taste Cheshire, I am absolutely delighted to introduce this week which we hope will be one of the City’s tastiest collaborations ever…

The entire week has been designed to celebrate our city’s wonderful food heritage via a series of unique, socially distanced experiences and our recommendations in support of our deliciously diverse food and drink sector.

Sadly, our much-loved Chester Food, Drink & Lifestyle Festival was unable to go ahead this year and to say that it has been missed, is a huge understatement. This would have been its 20th year and it has left a gaping hole in Chester’s culinary calendar prompting us all to get together to create this brand new city-wide initiative.

Taste Cheshire’s fabulous foodie festival unites the city year after year through everyone’s love of great food and drink – as well as bringing together our entire industry for the annual food and drink awards ceremony.

But despite Covid-19, we can still celebrate our beloved bars, restaurants, dining pubs and cafés this year with a week of treats and recommendations  across the entire city – at a time when they need your support the most.

Huge thank you to our great friends at Living Vicariously Art and Printworks Chester, who together have created a brand new Food and Drink map to help you rediscover the city you love, from a culinary point of view.

By the time you are reading this, our dedicated and independent website will be up and running, giving you access to a whole host of unique food and drink experiences, exclusive offers and recommendations running across the week from Monday 14th to Sunday 20th September.

We are hoping that Chester Food and Drink Week will become a bi-annual event. The first week will take place at Easter time in the run up to the Chester Food, Drink and Lifestyle Festival and again in September as we head into the Autumn.

With love & thanks to everyone involved

Chester Cathedral Farmers Market.

To celebrate Chester Food and Drink Week, Chester Cathedral will be hosting the Taste Cheshire Farmers Market on Wednesday the 16th September. For the first time in over 100 years the Nave of Chester Cathedral will play host to an array of Cheshire produced food and drink.

The Dean of Chester Cathedral, The Right Reverend Tim Stratford said “Chester Cathedral is pleased to be involved in the inaugural Chester Food and Drink Week. The opportunity to be able to bring people together through food and drink is something we are familiar with through the Church and this event seems the ideal way to feature both our fabulous Cathedral and the stunning products made by the producers of Cheshire.”

The Cathedral Farmers market will start at 10.00 am on the 16th September and finish at 4.00pm. Admission is FREE and the layout adopts the socially distanced principles within the Cathedral. Entry will be through the West Doors, which are the ones that face on to Town Hall Square.

Everyone is welcome. For more information go to:

Canalside Dining
At It’s Best…

From fabulous coffee and cake, to pizza perfection… Artichoke has been a feature of the Chester dining scene for years and its still one of the City’s favourite canalside hotspots….

A super-funky bar and bistro located on the canal where Nev and his team serve superb craft beers, great wines and cocktails, the most delicious small plates and seriously good pizza. What do we love about Artichoke? Its unpretentious and it has plenty of space, and the canal-side dining is a really good way to enjoy delicious food and drink in one of the prettiest spots in the city. And we really love their new addition of Gnome & Away, where you can pick up beers, wines and spirits to take home – plus a few surprises too.

The Vintage Choice

We take a peek inside Chester’s only dedicated wine bar, shop & pairing paradise Vin Santo …

The beautiful 13th century crypt on Watergate Street has been keeping Cestrians in good supply of fine wines for over 300 years, so Simon and the team are understandably proud of their wonderful wine shop and bar in this most historic location.

Packed full of some of the world’s most interesting wines, along with a mind-blowing range of spirits to sip, mix and enjoy, this place is an experience from the minute you step inside the door.

‘We’ll always have 32 wines available by the glass that we guarantee have been thoroughly ‘researched’ by the staff,’ said Simon.’ We love nothing more than chatting wine, educating our customers and sharing some of our discoveries, so tell us what you like, and we’ll find you the perfect glass.’

If it’s a glass of bubbles you’re after the guys also have an impressive list of Champagne and fizz not to mention countless exciting gins behind the bar. So for a global wine journey with a difference, in the most epic surroundings make Vin Santo the top of your tasting list – it’s a vintage choice!
